"India won't allow it's humiliation", says Putin; Warns Trump on trade
New Delhi (Uttam Hindu News): Russian President Vladimir Putin has heaped praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Putin said that PM Modi always puts his country's interests first. He described Modi as one of the world's most intelligent leaders. President Putin was addressing the plenary session of the Valdai Discussion Club in Sochi. During the session, he also highlighted the deep friendship and strategic partnership between India and Russia.
Putin said, "I believe that the people of India and Russia can never forget the strong ties between our two countries. Almost 15 years ago, we announced a special strategic partnership, and it continues to best define our relations today. Prime Minister Modi is a very wise leader who puts his country first."
Putin's India visit
The Russian president's statement comes amid speculation that he will visit India later this year. Ahead of his visit, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is also expected to visit India to discuss bilateral issues, including summit preparations.
Reaction to US tariffs
Responding to a question about US tariffs and India's energy needs at the Valdai Discussion Club, Putin said that if India stops buying Russian oil, it could suffer economic losses of approximately $9 to $10 billion. He expressed confidence that Prime Minister Modi will not bow to any foreign pressure and will protect India's dignity and strategic autonomy.
Putin said, "This is a purely economic issue, not a political one. If India withdraws from our energy resources, it will suffer losses. And if it continues to trade with us despite the sanctions, it will still face challenges. But I am confident that India will not compromise its national interests."
