Indian Passport's Global Influence Grows: 59 Countries Now Accessible Without Visa
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The strength of the Indian passport has increased significantly. In the prestigious Henley Passport Index released for July 2025, India has jumped 8 places compared to January. With this improvement, India's ranking has improved from 85th to 77th position. Now Indian passport holders can travel to 59 countries of the world without visa.
Singapore has once again maintained its dominance in the global rankings, retaining the top spot. Singapore passport holders enjoy visa-free access to 193 of the world's 227 destinations. Asian countries continue to dominate the list, with Japan and South Korea tied for second. Citizens of these two countries can travel to 190 countries without a visa. The rankings are based on data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
According to the new rankings, India has risen only two places in the list of countries with visa-free access. Nevertheless, this major improvement in the ranking reflects India's growing diplomatic reach and strengthened bilateral agreements with various countries. Saudi Arabia has also gained in the rankings and has climbed four places to reach 54th position with 91 destinations.
Meanwhile, the rankings of the world's most powerful countries, the US and the UK, continue to fall. The United Kingdom (UK) has slipped to sixth place, providing visa-free access to 186 countries. At the same time, the United States (USA) is now in 10th place with access to 182 destinations. The rankings of these two countries have seen a steady decline over the past decade, and now there is a threat that the US may soon be out of the top-10 list.
