IndiGo plane in hijack scare, emergency landing in Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad (The Uttam Hindu): An Indigo flight returning from Kuwait to Delhi made an emergency landing in Ahmedabad on Friday following a bomb threat. All passengers were evacuated in a controlled manner and taken to a secure area of the airport. There were no reports of injuries or medical emergencies during the flight.
Information revealed that the plane was carrying 186 people, including 180 passengers. A tissue paper found on the plane on Friday contained threatening words. The handwritten note mentioned hijacking and a bomb, prompting the flight crew to take immediate action. Following standard aviation safety protocol, the pilot alerted air traffic control and decided to divert the plane to the nearest airport, Ahmedabad.
The flight landed safely at Ahmedabad airport, where security agencies were alerted before its arrival. N.D. Nakum, inspector at the airport police station, said security agencies acted swiftly after receiving the threat. "All relevant security agencies were alerted after receiving the threat," he said. "The bomb squad thoroughly checked the plane. No suspicious or objectionable items have been found so far. The aircraft's inspection process is complete."
Bomb disposal squads, CISF teams, dog squads, and airport security teams conducted a thorough search of the aircraft. In addition to the aircraft, all passenger luggage was also checked, and passengers underwent personal security checks as per standard operating procedures. A heavy police presence was deployed throughout the airport during the operation. Airport sources stated that flight operations continued with minor and temporary changes while the security checks were ongoing.
Currently, officials are investigating the handwritten threatening note and trying to determine how it was placed inside the plane. Officials said appropriate action will be taken based on the investigation's results.
