New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) : India's largest airline IndiGo will start issuing travel vouchers worth Rs 10,000 from next week to passengers affected by the massive flight cancellations earlier this month.

According to several reports, budget airline IndiGo will issue travel vouchers worth ₹10,000 to passengers affected by flight cancellations on December 26th, 3rd, 4th, and 5th of this month. This voucher will be in addition to the ₹5,000 to ₹10,000 compensation provided to affected passengers as per government regulations. The government has strictly instructed IndiGo to ensure that payments reach all eligible passengers without delay.

IndiGo was directed to collect passenger details from travel agents and online travel agencies and ensure direct payments to affected customers. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has been tasked with overseeing the successful disbursement of compensation, and the Ministry of Civil Aviation will monitor the process through its Air Services Grievance Portal. According to reports, IndiGo has initiated the refund process for cancelled flights, but many passengers who booked through online travel agencies (OTAs) have not yet received their payments, indicating a lack of coordination between airlines and booking platforms.

Reports said that MakeMyTrip had processed refunds of around ₹10 crore even before receiving payment from IndiGo following the DCGA directive. Earlier, IndiGo Chairman Vikram Singh Mehta had said that the airline's board would appoint external technical experts to work with management and identify the root causes of the widespread flight cancellations last week. He said that the experts would help ensure that such widespread operational failures do not occur again. Meanwhile, the company informed that all destinations on the airline's network were fully connected from December 8 and operations had stabilized from December 9.
