New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): After resigning from his post, former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar will soon have to vacate his government residence. The election of the new Vice President is going to be held soon, after which this residence will be allotted to the newly elected Vice President. However, the Type-8 bungalow that Dhankhar will get as a former Vice President is not ready yet, due to which he may have to spend a few months in a temporary residence.

Why is there a delay in permanent housing?

According to reports, as former Vice President, Jagdeep Dhankhar is to be allotted bungalow number 34 located on APJ Abdul Kalam Marg. Currently a Union Minister is living in this bungalow. According to the procedure, first the Union Minister will vacate the bungalow, after which it will be renovated as per the protocol of the former Vice President. This entire process is expected to take at least 4 months.

Situation created by sudden resignation

Usually there is no delay in the arrangement of residence for former presidents or vice presidents, but sources say that this situation has arisen due to Dhankhar's sudden resignation. Before him, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu also had to wait for a few weeks for permanent residence. Government sources have clarified that the reason for the delay in the completion of the bungalow is purely technical and no other meaning should be drawn from it.

What are Dhankhar's options now?

At present, former Vice President Dhankhar has two options. The first is to stay in a temporary government accommodation provided by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) until the permanent accommodation is ready. The second option is to arrange for a private accommodation at his own level, although there may be security concerns in this.
