Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara reopens, corridor remains closed for Indian pilgrims
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The historic Shri Kartarpur Sahib Gurdwara in Pakistan has reopened to devotees after being shut due to severe flooding that left the complex submerged under nearly 11 feet of water. With repair and cleaning work now complete, visitors can once again pay obeisance at the shrine.
However, Indian pilgrims remain unable to access the Kartarpur Corridor. The central government has announced that the corridor will stay closed until further notice owing to prevailing security concerns. The corridor has been shut since May 7, 2025.
The suspension followed the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives. In response, India carried out retaliatory strikes on terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir under “Operation Sindoor.” Since then, Indian devotees have been barred from using the corridor, even as the Gurdwara itself reopens for visitors.
