Cloudburst Hits Himachal's Kinnaur: Kailash Yatra Suspended Amid Flood Damage

Kinnaur (The Uttam Hindu) : A large part of the track was washed away due to cloudburst on the Kinnar Kailash Yatra route in Tangling area of Himachal Pradesh. Two bridges on the Kailash Yatra route were washed away due to the sudden flood. The rest of the route was also badly damaged, due to which the Yatra has been stopped.

Hundreds of pilgrims were stranded but the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) conducted a timely rescue operation and saved 413 devotees safely. The spokesperson of the force said on Wednesday that on receiving the information, the team of ITBP's 17th battalion, using rope-based traverse crossing technique, safely evacuated 413 pilgrims and took them to safe places.

He said that this rescue operation involved an ITBP team comprising one officer, four sub-ordinate officers and 29 other ranks along with members of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). 617 roads including four national highways are closed in the state due to landslides at various places. 1491 electricity transformers and 265 water supply schemes are also affected.
