Kolkata Rape Case: Two Accused Filmed Crime for Blackmail, Shocking Details Emerge
Kolkata (The Uttam Hindu News): Not even a year has passed since the much talked about rape-murder case in R.G. Kar Medical College, when Kolkata has once again been shaken by a painful and horrific incident. A case of gang rape of a 24-year-old student of South Kolkata Law College has come to light. In this case, the police have arrested four accused, from whose mobile phones video clippings and photographs related to the crime have been recovered.
Kolkata rape case: Not one but two accused made the video on their phones, said they did this to blackmail: According to police sources, the main accused Manojit Mishra not only raped the student, but he also made a video of this shameful act on his own mobile phone. Also, another accused recorded the video of this incident from outside the window of the security guard room of the college campus. During interrogation, the accused have admitted that they recorded the video and photos with the intention of blackmailing the victim. Officials investigating the incident say that this entire case was well planned and its purpose was to mentally harass the victim.
Meanwhile, National Commission for Women member Archana Majumdar visited the college on Sunday and questioned the role of the police in the case. She alleged that attempts were being made by the college administration and the police to hide many facts. Majumdar said, "The police are not cooperating with us fully. The victim's family is under extreme pressure and their whereabouts are not clear at the moment. The police even prevented me from recording a video of the incident spot."
In protest against the incident, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organized a "Kanya Suraksha March" on Sunday evening, which was led by Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Shubhendu Adhikari. During the rally, BJP workers were demanding justice with torches in their hands. The incident has once again raised serious questions about the safety of women in the state.
