Bhopal (The Uttam Hindu): A very happy and encouraging news has come to wildlife lovers from Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh. Gamini, a female cheetah brought from South Africa, has given birth to three healthy cubs. Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Mr. Bhupendra Yadav, shared this joy with the countrymen on the social media platform X. Interestingly, this good news comes just three years after the successful arrival of South African cheetahs in India.

Gamini becomes a mother for the second time

Today, another golden chapter has been added to the success story of the Indian government's 'Project Cheetah'. Gamini, a female cheetah of South African origin, has given birth to three cubs, adding a significant addition to the population of Kuno National Park. With this, Gamini has become the second female cheetah in India to become a mother. Currently, the Kuno National Park field team and a special team of veterinarians are closely monitoring Gamini and her three cubs around the clock. Wildlife experts believe that the first few weeks after birth are crucial for the cubs' survival. It is worth noting that Gamini's previous record has been impressive, having previously set a new record under this program by giving birth to six cubs in March 2024.

The number of cheetahs in the country has increased to 38.

With the arrival of these three new little guests in Kuno, the conservation statistics for cheetahs in India have become extremely encouraging. With these births, the total number of cheetahs in India has now reached 38. The country has already seen nine successful litters, bringing the total number of live cheetahs born here to 27. It's worth noting that 12 cheetahs were brought to India from South Africa in February 2023. Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav expressed pride in this significant achievement, saying it was a proud moment for Kuno and all of India. He wished that Gamini and her three little "sprinters" remain healthy and continue India's cheetah revival story with the same speed and grace.
