New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): In view of the ever-increasing tension in the Middle East and the possible shortage of cooking gas (LPG) across the country, the government has taken a very important step for the convenience of consumers. To eradicate the black marketing of gas cylinders, the government is now making a major and strict change in the delivery rules. Under this new rule, LPG cylinder will not be delivered to any customer without sharing the OTP. In many metropolitan cities like Delhi and Mumbai, gas companies are already delivering cylinders through this OTP system, and now it is gradually being implemented compulsorily across the country.

Why was this strict step regarding OTP taken?

This new rule has been implemented to curb the fraudulent delivery of LPG cylinders, illegal hoarding, and rampant black marketing across the country. Under this transparent system, whenever you book gas, an OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number at the time of delivery. When the gas agency employee arrives at your home with the cylinder, you will be required to share this OTP with him. This OTP is called the 'Delivery Authentication Code' (DAC). Unless the employee enters this code into his system, the delivery will not be considered successful under any circumstances, nor will the gas cylinder be handed over to you.

How will common customers get direct benefit from this system?

In fact, for a long time, complaints were being received from various parts of the country that some gas agency employees would show the cylinders as complete on paper and in the system without actually delivering them to customers. They would then sell those cylinders on the black market at arbitrary and inflated prices, making a profit. With the implementation of this new OTP rule, this entire "sham" by the employees will be completely eliminated. Now, to show the delivery as successful in the system, they will have to enter the correct OTP received on the customer's phone. This simply means that to obtain the OTP, they will have to go to the actual customer's home to deliver the cylinder, which will completely stop the theft of gas that is rightfully theirs.
