Main accused sub-inspector held in doctor suicide case, woman left name on palm as clue

Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): Suspended Police Sub-Inspector Gopal Badne, the main accused in the female doctor suicide case in Satara, Maharashtra, has been arrested. According to reports, Badne had surrendered to the Satara police. This is the second arrest in the case. Previously, police arrested software engineer and co-accused Prashant Banker.


Doctor suicide case: Main accused sub-inspector arrested, woman had written his name on her palm and committed suicide: Let us inform you that the body of a 28-year-old female doctor was found hanging from a noose in a hotel room in Satara district on Thursday night. The deceased was a resident of Beed district and was posted at a government hospital in Phaltan. Before dying, the female doctor wrote a suicide note on her palm, in which she alleged that sub-inspector Gopal Badne raped her several times, while software engineer Prashant Bankar mentally harassed her.


Following the incident, police arrested the accused, Sub-Inspector Gopal Badne, on Saturday evening, hours after the arrest of a co-accused. Earlier in the morning, a team from the Phaltan police arrested software engineer Prashant Bankar, one of the two people named by the doctor in his suicide note.


Bankar, who is now facing charges of mentally torturing the victim and abetting her suicide, was produced before the Satara district court, which remanded him to four days' police custody.


A case of rape and abetment to suicide has been registered against the two in Phaltan, Satara district. Police said Bankar is the son of the landlord of the house where the doctor lived. They said the doctor had allegedly called him and spoken to him before committing suicide.
