Major accident averted at Vaishno Devi shrine, helicopter windshield breaks after bird hit; pilgrims escape unharmed
Katra (The Uttam Hindu): A major accident was narrowly avoided during the pilgrimage to Vaishno Devi Temple when a helicopter carrying pilgrims collided with a bird, damaging its front windshield. Due to the pilot’s quick thinking and calm handling of the situation, the helicopter was landed safely and all passengers escaped unharmed.
According to available information, a helicopter operated by Global Vitra Company (Flight Number-33) had taken off from Sanjichhat helipad carrying pilgrims towards Katra. When the helicopter was approaching Katra, a bird suddenly struck the aircraft, causing the front windshield to crack.
Understanding the seriousness of the situation, the pilot showed patience and presence of mind and safely landed the helicopter at the Katra helipad. A total of seven people were on board, including six pilgrims from Haryana and the pilot.
Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. After the safe landing, the pilgrims appreciated the pilot’s presence of mind and expressed gratitude to the goddess. Meanwhile, the helicopter has been temporarily taken out of service for technical inspection. Officials said that other helicopter services are continuing normally.
