Imphal (The Uttam Hindu): In a major joint operation across Manipur, Army units and security forces successfully arrested four terrorists, seizing an extensive cache of firearms, explosives, and narcotics. The operation underscores the coordinated efforts of security agencies to curb insurgent activities in the state.
Lieutenant Colonel Amit Shukla, Defence Spokesperson, stated that under the Spear Corps, units of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Manipur Police, carried out several precise, intelligence-based operations in recent days in the Tengnoupal, Imphal East, and Chandel districts. The raids targeted active members of various insurgent groups in hilly and plain areas. Four members were arrested, and drugs and other weapons were recovered from them.
The arrested terrorists were linked to the Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF)/People’s Liberation Army (PLA), Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group), and the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak. Confiscated weapons included AK-47 rifles, INSAS rifles, 9 mm pistols, two single-barrel guns, a rifle, a 3-foot mortar, and 20 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition.
The spokesperson added that Assam Rifles had set up a checkpoint in Tengnoupal during the joint operation with Manipur Police. During a thorough search, about 1,20,000 highly addictive methamphetamine pills were seized, estimated to be worth ₹3.6 crore.
Lieutenant Colonel Shukla stated that these coordinated efforts by the security forces demonstrate their unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and security in Manipur.
A Manipur Police officer said that security personnel continue to conduct searches and maintain control in the outer, mixed-population, and sensitive areas of the districts.
The Manipur Police urged citizens to remain vigilant against rumors and fake content online. They emphasized that any suspicious video or audio should be verified with the Central Control Room. Sharing false information can attract legal action, and the public is encouraged to promptly hand over any recovered weapons, explosives, or ammunition to nearby authorities.
Authorities noted that 115 checkpoints were established across hilly and plain regions of various districts to prevent the illegal movement of suspicious elements and vehicles. Security forces also inspected several vehicles transporting essential goods on the Imphal–Jiribam National Highway and deployed security convoys in sensitive areas.
