Stampede at Mansa Devi Temple: Uttarakhand CM Orders Magisterial Probe, Announces Compensation

Haridwar (The Uttam Hindu): The death toll in the tragic stampede accident at Haridwar's Mansa Devi temple has risen to 8. The injured are being treated in nearby hospitals. Meanwhile, taking a tough stand on the incident, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has ordered a magisterial inquiry. Along with this, the government has also announced compensation for the families of the deceased and the injured.

According to a statement issued from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO), the state government will provide assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to the dependents of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the injured. Chief Minister Dhami said that in this hour of grief, the state government stands firmly with the bereaved families.

On the instructions of the Chief Minister, the District Magistrate of Haridwar has been ordered to conduct an immediate magisterial inquiry into the incident. Along with this, instructions have also been given to conduct a thorough review of crowd management and security arrangements to prevent recurrence of such incidents in future.

Earlier, CM Dhami had said, "In an unfortunate incident, 8 people have died in a stampede due to a rumor at the Mansa Devi temple. Strict action will be taken against whoever is found guilty." President Draupadi Murmu has also expressed her condolences on this tragic incident by posting on the social media platform 'X'.

Uttarakhand CMO has informed that Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will visit Haridwar District Hospital today at around 2 pm. He will meet the people injured in the stampede and take stock of the health facilities being provided to them.

Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman said that helpline numbers have been issued to obtain information about the casualties in the incident. Relatives can contact these numbers and obtain information.
