Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): A high-profile concert by American rapper Travis Scott, held on 19 November at Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi Racecourse, has hit the headlines, not for the music, but for a major theft incident. Police have registered a case against unknown individuals after multiple people reported losing expensive belongings during the event. CCTV footage from the venue is now being examined.

Thousands of fans had attended the concert, but many ended up at the police station after losing valuable items. So far, Tardeo Police Station has received complaints about 24 high-end smartphones and 12 gold chains being stolen, worth a total of around ₹28 lakh.

According to officials, most of the stolen phones were iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 series models, priced between ₹1 lakh and ₹1.5 lakh. The missing gold chains are estimated between ₹50,000 and ₹2 lakh each. A case has been registered under sections 303(2) (theft) and 304 (group crime) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police suspect a professional gang targeting large events like concerts, music festivals, and sports matches.

Investigators are now reviewing CCTV footage from all entry and exit points. Event organizers have also been asked to provide details of lighting arrangements, security deployment, and audience entry logs. Police believe that some suspects may be visible in the footage and expect progress in the next 48–72 hours.

Meanwhile, several people have shared their experiences on social media, with some even posting the IMEI numbers of their stolen phones.

Police have urged anyone who lost their phone or jewellery at the concert to immediately file a complaint at Tardeo Police Station. They have also advised people to avoid carrying valuables to large events in the future.

While this was Travis Scott’s first performance in Mumbai with ticket prices ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹50,000, the security lapses have raised serious concerns. The investigation is ongoing, and arrests are expected soon.
