Mehbooba Mufti's daughter slams Nitish Kumar over burqa incident, tells Giriraj Singh to 'wash face with phenyl
Srinagar (The Uttam Hindu): The controversy surrounding Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar removing a Muslim woman's veil at a public event continues unabated and has now taken a serious legal turn. Iltija Mufti, daughter of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and a PDP leader, has taken a strong stand on the matter and filed a complaint against Nitish Kumar at the Kothi Bagh police station in Srinagar. Iltija has alleged that the Chief Minister has violated the woman's dignity by forcibly removing her veil. She shared a copy of her complaint on the social media platform X, tagging the Jammu and Kashmir Police, and has appealed for immediate action in the matter.
In her complaint, Iltija Mufti described the incident as disgusting. In a letter to the police, she stated that she wanted to draw attention to an incident that has caused profound trauma to the Muslim community, and women in particular. She described the incident as a "cringeworthy act" in which the Chief Minister of Bihar attempted to pull the hijab from the face of a young Muslim doctor in the presence of a large crowd. She also strongly objected to the fact that the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and others present were seen laughing at the incident, making it even more shameful. The PDP leader clearly stated that wearing a hijab or niqab is a matter of personal choice and religious freedom, and interference in this matter will not be tolerated.
Union Minister Giriraj Singh's defense of Nitish Kumar in this entire episode infuriated Iltija Mufti and she issued a scathing response. Targeting Giriraj Singh, she wrote on "X" that only "phenyl" would be useful in cleaning this man's filthy mouth. She warned, "Don't dare touch the hijab and niqab of our Muslim mothers and sisters, or Muslim women will teach him and his ilk a lesson they will remember forever." Currently, this high-profile complaint filed by Iltija has sparked a stir in political circles, and all eyes are on the police action.
