Modi Govt Approves ₹8,308 Crore Six-Lane Bhubaneswar Bypass Project in Odisha

Bhubaneshwar(The Uttam Hindu):  The Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved the construction of a six-lane, access-controlled Capital Region Ring Road (Bhubaneswar Bypass) in Odisha. The project will be developed under the hybrid annuity model (HAM) with a total cost of ₹8,307.74 crore.

Why the Project Matters

1. The existing National Highway stretch from Rameshwar to Tangi faces severe traffic congestion due to heavy traffic through urban centers like Khordha, Bhubaneswar, and Cuttack.

2. The new bypass will divert heavy commercial vehicles away from city centers, improving freight efficiency, reducing transport costs, and driving economic growth in Odisha and neighboring states.

1. The bypass will link with National Highways NH55, NH57, NH655, and state highway SH65.

2. It will enhance multi-modal transport by connecting with Khordha railway station, Bhubaneswar airport, a proposed Multi-Modal Logistics Park, and ports like Puri and Astrang.

3. Expected to generate 7.443 million person-days of direct employment and 9.304 million person-days of indirect employment.
