Heavy Rains to Hit India: IMD Issues Alert for August 18-21
New Delhi(The Uttam Hindu): The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy rains in many states from August 18 to 21. Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms are expected, increasing the risk of floods and landslides. In Western India, Konkan, Goa, Maharashtra, and Gujarat will experience heavy rains, with extremely heavy rains expected in Konkan and Goa on August 18-19. A heavy rain alert has been issued for Konkan, Marathwada and Central Maharashtra including Mumbai from August 18 to 21, with winds reaching 40-50 km/h.
In South India, coastal Karnataka, Telangana, Kerala, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema will see heavy rainfall, with Telangana expecting extremely heavy rainfall on August 18. Heavy rain is also expected in Odisha and Chhattisgarh of eastern India on August 18, with continuous rain in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh for the next seven days. Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal are also under a heavy rain alert from August 19 to 23.
In Northwest and Northeast India, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh will experience heavy rains. Residents in these areas should remain alert due to the risk of landslides and waterlogging.
