Mumbai Train Blast 2006: Maharashtra Govt Moves SC Against Release of 12 Convicts
Mumbai (The Uttam Hindu): The Maharashtra government has challenged the Bombay High Court's decision in the 2006 Mumbai local train serial bomb blasts case in the Supreme Court. The High Court had acquitted all 12 accused in this case, after which the state government has approached the apex court against this decision. The Supreme Court will hear this important petition on July 24.
This case is related to the dark day of 11 July 2006, when a series of bomb blasts took place during peak hours in the local trains, which are called the lifeline of Mumbai. More than 180 innocent people lost their lives in these terrorist attacks and hundreds were seriously injured. These blasts shook the entire country.
After a long investigation and trial of the case, 12 people were made accused. However, recently the Bombay High Court ruled to acquit all 12 accused, citing lack of evidence.
In its petition, the Maharashtra government has termed the High Court's decision as "unfair in the interest of justice". The state government argues that the prosecution had presented strong evidence in this case, but the High Court did not consider them properly. The government believes that the High Court's decision has failed to do justice to the victims and their families.
Now all eyes are on the hearing in the Supreme Court on July 24, where it will be decided what course the legal process will take in this case. The families of the victims and the entire country are waiting for final justice in this case.
