Dehradun (The Uttam Hindu): The state government has taken an important decision to promote green fuel. The government has decided to reduce the VAT rate on natural gas from 20 percent to five percent. This decision is expected to significantly reduce CNG and PNG prices.

Following the VAT reduction, CNG prices could fall by 13 to 15 rupees per kg, and PNG prices by 5 to 7 rupees per unit. Petrol and diesel-powered vehicles are considered a major cause of the state's steadily increasing pollution. In recent days, the Air Quality Index (AQI) has also increased in several major cities in Uttarakhand.

In light of these circumstances, the state government has decided to encourage the use of environmentally friendly natural gas. As part of this initiative, the VAT rate on natural gas has been significantly reduced, which will reduce its prices.

Currently, the price of CNG in various cities of the state ranges from approximately 99 to 100 rupees per kg, while the price of PNG ranges from 40 to 45 rupees per unit. These rates will decline as soon as the VAT reduction is implemented, directly benefiting consumers who drive vehicles using natural gas. The new rates will become effective as soon as the government orders are issued.
