Egypt (The Uttam Hindu) : At least four crew members lost their lives and four others remain missing after an oil exploration vessel capsized in the Gulf of Suez, officials reported on Wednesday. According to a statement from Egypt’s petroleum ministry, the incident occurred Tuesday evening near Ras Gharaib, a town in the northwestern Red Sea region, adjacent to the African coastline of the Gulf of Suez — a vital maritime route.

Red Sea Governor Amr Hanafi stated that the ship had 30 workers aboard at the time of the accident. Rescue teams managed to recover four bodies and save 22 individuals, who were subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment. The Egyptian Navy joined the ongoing search and rescue efforts, which continued overnight in hopes of locating the four missing crew members. The vessel capsized in the Gabel el-Jeit area, a key oil production zone located around 300 kilometers (186 miles) south of the Suez Canal. The petroleum ministry emphasized that the incident did not impact maritime traffic through the canal, which links the Gulf of Suez to the Mediterranean Sea.
