Pakistan’s Drone Attack on Uri Hydro Project Foiled by CISF During Operation Sindoor

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Just hours after India launched Operation Sindoor, Pakistan attempted to target the Uri Hydro Electric Project located near the Line of Control. However, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) successfully prevented the attack, and no damage was reported. CISF, which safeguards India’s strategic installations, shared this information.

The statement was issued in connection with the honour awarded to 19 personnel deployed at the Uri Hydro Electric Project. These CISF jawans were presented the DG Disc for disabling a drone during Pakistani firing. The drone was attempting to strike the installation, and the personnel also ensured the safe evacuation of local residents.

According to officials, the DG Disc was awarded to these 19 members during a ceremony at the CISF headquarters in Delhi. CISF explained that the Indian Army conducted Operation Sindoor on the night of May 6–7, targeting terror bases across the LoC. After the operation, Pakistan began intense firing, increasing the threat to the Uri Hydro Project and nearby critical facilities.

Located just a few kilometres from the LoC, the NHPC-run Uri project faced heightened danger. The CISF team quickly sprang into action. Assistant Sub-Inspector Gurjit Singh and other personnel were honoured for shooting down an enemy drone spotted 8–10 km away from the LoC.

Despite heavy firing, the unit led by Deputy Commandant Ravi Yadav secured the project area and nearby civilian settlements. Their first step was to protect the armoury and ammunition stockpile to prevent any possible damage.

Officials added that due to CISF’s alertness and swift response, national assets remained safe. As shells landed close to residential zones during the cross-border firing, CISF teams went door-to-door to evacuate civilians including women, children, NHPC staff, and their families. They emphasized that during Operation Sindoor, the hydro project in Uri was among Pakistan’s primary targets.
