New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Budget Session of Parliament begins on Wednesday with President Droupadi Murmu addressing a joint sitting of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. According to reports, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is likely to present the Union Budget on February 1, while the Economic Survey is expected to be tabled in Parliament on January 29.

Earlier this month, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced on social media platform X that, on the recommendation of the Government of India, President Droupadi Murmu had approved the convening of both Houses of Parliament for the Budget Session 2026. The session will begin on January 28, 2026, and continue till April 2, 2026.

The first phase of the session will conclude on February 13, 2026, after which Parliament will reconvene on March 9, 2026. The two-phase format allows initial discussions on the Budget and other key issues, followed by detailed scrutiny by parliamentary committees during the recess, and final debate and passage of financial bills in the second phase.

In his post, Rijiju highlighted the government’s commitment to transparent and effective legislative functioning. This Budget Session is being held at a crucial time, with the government focusing on economic growth, fiscal stability, and addressing challenges related to infrastructure, employment, and sustainability.

During the session, lawmakers from all political parties are expected to hold detailed discussions on taxation, public spending, and policy reforms. In total, Parliament is scheduled to hold 30 sittings during the Budget Session.
