Bihar (The Uttam Hindu): Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to give a major gift to women in Bihar today. Under the Chief Minister Women Employment Scheme, the first installment of ₹10,000 will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of 75 lakh women in the state. The program will be held virtually at 11 AM, with PM Modi participating online, while Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will also join virtually.

Political analysts believe that this scheme could prove to be a significant game-changer ahead of the assembly elections. Meanwhile, opposition RJD has criticized the government over this initiative.

The scheme aims to promote women’s empowerment by making them self-reliant and providing opportunities for self-employment and livelihood. Under the plan, one woman from each family will receive financial assistance to start her chosen employment or livelihood activity, providing economic independence as well as social empowerment.

During the program, the Prime Minister will directly transfer a total amount of ₹7,500 crore into beneficiaries’ bank accounts. The government claims that this initiative will strengthen women and play a crucial role in boosting the rural economy.
