Poisonous seeds mistaken as peanuts: 30 children sick in Shravasti, 10 in serious condition

Shravasti (The Uttam Hindu): A major tragedy occurred late Friday evening in Keshavpur village, in the Bhinga area of Shravasti district. The health of 30 children who had gone to play in the fields suddenly deteriorated. According to reports, the children found some wild plant seeds in the field and mistook them for peanuts and ate them. These seeds were poisonous, and within hours of eating them, the children's health began to deteriorate rapidly.


Mistaking them for peanuts, they ate poisonous seeds… 30 children fell ill in Shravasti, 10 were in critical condition: As the condition of the children deteriorated, their family members immediately admitted them to the emergency department of the district hospital. Doctors said that all the children had consumed poisonous substance, due to which symptoms like vomiting, dizziness and restlessness were seen. Out of 30 children admitted in the hospital, the condition of 20 has improved after treatment, while the condition of 10 children is still critical. Doctor M.M. Sonkar present in the emergency said that all the children have been kept under observation and their treatment is continuing.


The incident has left the village in a state of panic. Doctors and the administration have urged residents to prevent children from touching or eating unidentified seeds, fruits, or plants in fields and wooded areas, as such negligence could lead to serious accidents.
