Powerful IED Blast on Railway Track in Assam: Tracks Destroyed, Several Trains Disrupted; Terror Plot Suspected
Guwahati/Kokrajhar (The Uttam Hindu): A suspected terror plot has surfaced in Assam after a powerful explosion took place late Wednesday night between Kokrajhar and Salakati railway stations. The blast severely damaged the railway track, and preliminary investigations suggest it was caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
According to reports, the explosion occurred around 10:30 PM. The impact was so strong that parts of the railway track were blown to pieces, leaving the line completely broken. Following the incident, several major trains traveling from South India to the Northeast were halted or delayed.
As soon as the explosion was reported, teams from the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), and local police rushed to the site. Security forces immediately cordoned off the area and launched an extensive search and investigation operation.
Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far. However, due to the severe damage to the track, railway authorities have canceled multiple trains and diverted several others through alternate routes. Repair and restoration work has already begun at the site.
Security agencies have started a detailed probe to identify those responsible for planting the explosive and their possible motive. Officials are also investigating whether the incident was part of a larger terror conspiracy. Authorities have yet to release an official statement, saying details will be shared only after the investigation is complete.
