Punjab Sets Up State Control Room, Deploys IAS Officers Across Districts Amid Border Tensions
Chandigarh(The Uttam Hindu): In response to rising tensions along the India-Pakistan border, the Punjab government has established a State Control Room and deployed senior IAS officers across all districts to ensure uninterrupted essential services and public safety.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has directed that no resident of the state should face difficulty during the current situation. The newly established State Control Room will include nodal officers from every department, enabling centralized monitoring and coordination of emergency responses.
Chief Secretary K.A.P. Sinha chaired a high-level meeting at the Punjab Civil Secretariat with administrative secretaries, the Director General of Police (DGP), Deputy Commissioners, Police Commissioners, and SSPs. Following the meeting, Sinha announced the appointment of senior IAS officers to monitor essential services such as healthcare, civil supplies, electricity, water, transportation, education, and coordination with the military at the district level.
To ensure continuous oversight, 15 IAS and PCS officers have been tasked with supervising the State Control Room in rotation. Each department will also contribute a nodal officer. The Home Department has been designated as the state’s nodal agency and will coordinate with central ministries and national security agencies.
The Food and Civil Supplies Department has been instructed to maintain adequate availability of daily essentials and to take strict legal action against hoarding. District administrations have submitted their resource requirements, and the Financial Commissioner (Revenue) has been directed to release advance funds as needed.
All officers have been ordered to cancel leave and remain at their respective posts to respond to any emergency. Control rooms in every district have been activated, and coordination mechanisms are in place to handle any crisis that may emerge.
