Patna (The Uttam Hindu): The Nitish Kumar government, which has been under fire from the opposition for the rising crime in Bihar, has now taken a big step towards equipping the police with modern and deadly weapons. The government has approved a budget of Rs 5 crore for the state's Special Task Force (STF), through which such high-tech weapons will be purchased which will be safe for the soldiers but will prove to be deadly for the criminals.

The most prominent among these weapons are the 'Through-the-Wall Radar' and the 'Corner Shot Weapon System', which till now were seen only in Hollywood films or with a few selected armies of the world.

After the approval of the Home Department, now the STF will buy the 'Through-the-Wall Radar' system. This is a device that can tell the exact number of criminals hiding inside any house or building and their location. This radar can see through a 12-inch thick wall from 20 meters away. This will give the STF complete information inside before carrying out any operation, which will reduce the risk to the lives of the soldiers and increase the success rate of the operation.

The second most lethal weapon in this purchase is the 'Corner Shot Weapon System'. During an encounter, criminals often fire from behind a wall, tree or corner, which puts the soldiers at risk. This weapon based on Israeli technology will give the soldier the power to target the criminal hiding on the other side of the corner without coming in front of the enemy. It has a camera and screen, so that the soldier can see the enemy and aim accurately at him while being in a safe place.

A variety of modern equipment will be procured for the Special Task Force (STF) with an amount of Rs 5 crore sanctioned by the Home Department. These equipment include a 'Through-the-Wall Radar' system, which will be able to see through walls, as well as two 'Corner Shot Weapon' systems, which will enable the jawans to safely shoot from corners. Additionally, ten night vision devices will help in surveillance and action in the dark of night. Fifty-fifty LED dragon lights and walkie-talkies are also being procured to improve communication. Ten non-lethal devices to enable security forces to neutralise criminals without firing a bullet and 80 lightweight tents for the jawans along with many other necessary security equipment will also be procured.

This modernisation will increase the strength of Bihar STF manifold and they will get a major technological edge in the fight against organised crime.
