Rahul Gandhi begins four-nation tour, focus on trade and strategic ties
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi has embarked on a significant diplomatic tour of four South American countries. During this trip, he will hold important meetings with presidents, senior political leaders, university students, and the business community.
Pawan Khera, head of the Congress's media and publicity department, shared the news on the social media platform 'X' on Saturday. "Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi has begun his visit to South America. He will interact with political leaders, university students, and members of the business community in four countries," he said in a post.
The Congress party described the visit as "historically significant," saying it would further strengthen long-standing ties between India and South America, such as the Non-Aligned Movement and solidarity with the Global South. According to the party, the trip also aims to explore new opportunities for partnership in the areas of trade, technology, and sustainability.
Congress sources said that during his visit, Rahul Gandhi will interact with university students in Brazil and Colombia. He will also meet business leaders to discuss new trade opportunities for India amid the current US tariffs.
The party says the trip will play a key role in shaping the global partnerships of India's democratic opposition and enhancing India's international presence. However, the Congress party has not yet clarified which four countries Rahul Gandhi will be visiting or how long the trip will last.
