Renowned classical singer Pandit Chhannula passes away after prolonged illness

New Delhi (Uttam Hindu News): Renowned classical singer Pandit Chhannulal Mishra passed away on Thursday at the age of 91. He breathed his last on Thursday morning in Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh. It is reported that classical singer Pandit Chhannulal Mishra had been ill for a long time. He was admitted to BHU a few days ago. However, he was discharged from the hospital after his health improved.


Even after returning home, his health did not improve significantly and he passed away in Mirzapur on Thursday morning. The news of his death has sent shockwaves through the music world. Pandit Chhannulal Mishra's last rites will be performed in Varanasi on Thursday evening. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep sorrow over the passing of Pandit Chhannulal Mishra.


Sharing some photos on the social media platform, he wrote, "I am deeply saddened by the passing of renowned classical singer Pandit Chhannulal Mishra. He dedicated his life to the enrichment of Indian art and culture. He not only brought classical music to the masses but also made an invaluable contribution to establishing Indian traditions on the world stage. It is my good fortune to have always received his love and blessings."


He added, "In 2014, he was also my proposer from the Varanasi seat. I express my deepest condolences to his family and fans in this time of grief. Om Shanti!" Classical singer Pandit Chhannulal Mishra was born on August 3, 1936, in Hariharpur, Azamgarh district, Uttar Pradesh.


Pandit Chhannulal Mishra was a leading singer of the Kirana and Banaras gharanas. He received his early musical training from his father, Pandit Badri Prasad Mishra, at the age of six and learned the nuances of khayal singing from Ustad Ghani Ali Saheb at the age of nine. His grandfather, Gudai Maharaj Shanta Prasad, was a renowned tabla player, from whom he inherited his musical talent.
