Scorpio at 100 mph crushes two friends on scooter, both die; video surfaces
Jaipur (The Uttam Hindu): The terror of unruly and speeding vehicles continues unabated in Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan. Following the recent spate of car wrecks by luxury vehicles like the Thar and Audi, a speeding white Scorpio has now committed a horrific crime. Two young men riding a scooter tragically died in this horrific road accident. CCTV footage of this heartbreaking incident has also surfaced, raising serious questions about road safety.
A horrific accident occurred at 12 o'clock in the night, the scooter jumped in the air.
According to police, the tragic accident occurred around midnight on Monday (February 16th) at about 12:00 AM, just opposite Maharana Pratap Chauraha School, near Kanta Square in the Jhotwara area. The deceased have been identified as Virendra, a resident of Bharatpur, and Mohit Sharma, a resident of Neem Ka Thana. Virendra worked at Apollo Pharmacy. They were close friends and lived in a rented house in Jaipur's Panchawala area. Last night, the two were returning home on their Activa scooters after dinner when a speeding white Scorpio coming from the front struck them. The impact was so severe that the scooter was thrown into the air and fell, and both men died on the spot.
The car was traveling at a speed of 100 kmph, the driver took advantage of the darkness and fled.
The maximum speed limit on the road where the accident occurred is set by the authorities at 30 kilometers per hour. However, based on eyewitness accounts and preliminary investigations, the Scorpio was traveling at over 100 kilometers per hour. Immediately after the accident, the Scorpio also went out of control, but the driver managed to regain control and flee the scene. Police suspect the accused driver may have been drunk. The vehicle's license plate is not clearly visible in the video that has surfaced, so police are examining CCTV footage from other routes to identify the accused. After post-mortems, the police have handed over the bodies of the two deceased to their families.
Such accidents are constantly occurring on the roads of Jaipur.
This isn't the first incident of rampage in Jaipur within the past month. Previously, a speeding Audi car brutally crushed 16 innocent people in the Patrakar Thana area, killing one person. Furthermore, an out-of-control white Thar car rammed four parked vehicles in front of the Vidhan Sabha. Earlier this month, a black Thar car wreaked havoc in the Shiprapath area. Five major incidents of Thar car-related carnage have been reported in Jaipur in the past month alone, instilling fear in the city's residents.
