Son rapes elderly mother twice suspecting her of old affair; says this is 'punishment'

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): A very shameful incident has come to light from the Hauz Qazi area of the capital Delhi, which has tarnished the sacred relationship of mother and son. Delhi Police has arrested a 39-year-old son for allegedly raping his 65-year-old mother twice. The accused son said that the reason for this brutality was the suspicion of his mother having an extramarital affair many years ago, for which he was 'punishing' her.

According to media reports, the victim, along with her 25-year-old daughter, reached the Hauz Qazi police station on Friday and lodged a complaint. In the complaint given to the police, the victim said that she lives in Hauz Qazi with her retired husband, the accused son and a daughter, while her elder daughter is married and lives nearby.

According to the complaint, the whole matter started when the victim went to Saudi Arabia with her husband and younger daughter to perform Hajj on July 17. A few days after their departure, the son started calling his father. The victim said, "The son said on the phone that we should return to Delhi immediately because he wants my husband to divorce me. He claimed that he had found out that I had extramarital affairs."

Troubled by these phone calls, the family returned to Delhi on August 1. As soon as they reached home, the accused assaulted his mother, made her remove her burqa and locked her in a room. Frightened by this incident, the elderly woman went to her elder daughter's house, but returned on August 11 to resolve the matter.

According to the police officer, the victim alleged that on the night of August 11, at around 9:30 pm, the accused told the family members that he wanted to talk to his mother alone. After this, he locked the mother in a room and raped her. The accused said that he was punishing them for their 'past deeds', while the victim kept pleading that she was his mother.

Due to social stigma and shock, the victim did not tell anyone about this and started sleeping in her daughter's room. But on Thursday (August 14) around 3:30 am, the accused again entered the room and sexually assaulted her again.

After this, the victim mustered courage and narrated the entire incident to her younger daughter, on whose insistence both of them decided to lodge a complaint with the police. On the basis of the complaint, the police have registered a case under Section 64 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and arrested the accused son and are further investigating the case.
