Spiritual leader Swami Chaitanyanand arrested in Agra for alleged sexual exploitation of 17 girls
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Delhi Police has arrested Swami Chaitanyananda, accused of sexually abusing 17 female students of the Sri Sharda Institute of Management in Vasant Kunj, Delhi, in Agra. Chaitanyananda had been on the run since the students leveled serious allegations against him. The accused faces several other serious charges, including sexual abuse.
According to the police, 17 female students of the institute recently filed a complaint against Swami Chaitanyananda, accusing him of sexual exploitation. In their complaint, the students stated that Chaitanyananda would forcibly call them into his bedroom at night and pressure them into having physical relations with him. Furthermore, serious allegations have surfaced regarding the installation of CCTV cameras in the girls' hostel rooms.
The accused, Swami Chaitanyananda, had been absconding since the case was registered. To avoid arrest, he even filed an anticipatory bail petition, which the court rejected. The court remarked that the allegations were extremely serious and that police interrogation of the accused was essential to unravel the truth of the matter.
Acting on a tip-off, a Delhi Police team arrested the accused, Chaitanyananda, in Agra on Sunday. In addition to sexual assault, police have also registered cases of using a fake license plate and fraud in the name of religion.
This isn't the first time such allegations have been leveled against Swami Chaitanyananda. Nine years ago, a former student leveled serious allegations against him, claiming that Chaitanyananda looked at her with lewd eyes and asked her to accompany him to expensive hotels. Several other students have also alleged that the accused lured them into complying with his advances by promising to take them abroad and cover their education expenses. Police have now interrogated the accused and are investigating the matter further.
