Dental Student Dies by Suicide at Sharda University, Protests Erupt Over Alleged Harassment; Suicide Note Found
Noida (The Uttam Hindu): A second-year Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) student, Jyoti Sharma, allegedly died by suicide in the women's hostel at Sharda University in Greater Noida. The incident occurred on Friday night, sparking protests among students, who demanded a fair investigation into the matter. According to the police, Jyoti left a suicide note alleging mental harassment and humiliation by two faculty members, whom she named as responsible for her death.
The university has taken swift action, constituting a high-power inquiry committee to investigate the circumstances leading to the incident. The two staff members have been suspended and arrested based on the complaint lodged by Jyoti's family members. The police have assured a swift and transparent investigation, and the body has been sent for a post-mortem. Students, particularly those in the hostel premises, raised slogans against the university administration, demanding a fair investigation into the matter and highlighting concerns about student welfare and the need for a safe and supportive academic environment.
