New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu) – The Supreme Court made an important observation while hearing a matrimonial dispute case. The court stated that a wife should not follow her husband around like a top. It also stated that for the sake of their children, couples should set aside their egos and consider living together.

The husband and wife who filed the case in the Supreme Court both hold government jobs. The wife works at the Reserve Bank of India in Patna, while the husband works at the Indian Railways in Delhi. They married in 2018 and had a daughter and a son. A few years into their marriage, they began to grow apart, and in 2023, the wife left her husband's home and moved in with her parents in Patna. The husband alleges that she wants him to live with her in-laws in Patna as a live-in son-in-law, but he is strongly opposed to this. According to reports, the wife filed a matrimonial dispute case against her husband, which went through the lower court and the High Court, all the way to the Supreme Court. During this time, the wife also filed a petition to shift the case to another location.

Hearing the case, a bench of Justices R. Mahadevan and B.V. Nagarathna attempted to pacify the couple. The court stated that the court's goal was not to escalate conflict but to nurture relationships. The court urged the couple to keep in mind that their egos were affecting their two young children the most. The court emphasized that both parents should put aside their own egos and prioritize their children's future. The court advised the wife not to try to manipulate her husband. Instead of passing a judgment, the court advised the couple to seek the help of a mediation center to find a solution. The court emphasized that relationships can only be saved through sacrifice, dialogue, and mutual cooperation, rather than ego and anger. Therefore, they should also consider saving their families by showing a large heart.
