Biggest Gold Smuggling Bust at Airport: Couple Tried to Sneak 28 Kg of Gold from Dubai
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) foiled the biggest gold smuggling attempt in Surat airport’s history. A couple returning from Dubai on Air India flight IX-174 was caught with 28 kg of gold paste cleverly strapped around their waist and chest. The woman carried 16 kg, while the man had 12 kg.
CISF officials said the seizure was made on the night of July 20 after a plainclothes intelligence officer noticed the couple’s suspicious movements in the international arrival area. During a thorough security check, the gold paste was found concealed under their clothes.
Authorities estimate the paste could yield over 20 kg of pure gold, worth crores of rupees. The CISF described it as the largest-ever gold haul at Surat airport. The detained couple has been handed over to Customs officials for further investigation, and officials are now probing the smuggling network involved.
