Sushma Swaraj’s husband passes away : Made history as youngest governor at 37

New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu): Swaraj Kaushal, father of BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj and former Governor of Mizoram, passed away on Thursday. Swaraj Kaushal was a renowned lawyer and the husband of the late Sushma Swaraj, former Chief Minister of Delhi and former External Affairs Minister. His death has sent shockwaves through the political and legal worlds.

Swaraj Kaushal served as the Governor of Mizoram from 1990 to 1993. He was also a long-serving senior advocate of the Supreme Court, and his contributions to the legal field are widely recognized. Announcing her father's passing, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj shared an emotional post on the social media platform Instagram.

BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj wrote in an X-post, "Papa Swaraj Kaushal, your affection, your discipline, your simplicity, your patriotism, and your immense patience are the lights of my life that will never dim. Your passing has come as the deepest pain in my heart, but my mind holds fast to the belief that you are now reunited with your mother, in the presence of God, in eternal peace. Being your daughter is the greatest honor of my life, and your legacy, your values, and your blessings will be the foundation of every journey I take ahead."

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan wrote in an X-post, "The sudden demise of Swaraj Kaushal, the revered father of former Governor of Mizoram, senior advocate and Member of Parliament from New Delhi, Bansuri Swaraj, is deeply saddening. Today, I visited Bansuri ji's residence and paid my heartfelt tributes to her father. Swaraj Kaushal served the nation with unprecedented dedication. His work in the legal field not only strengthened the justice system but also played a vital role in the upliftment of society. In this hour of grief, I express my deepest condolences to Bansuri Swaraj and her family. May God grant peace to the departed soul and give strength to the family in this difficult time."

The Delhi BJP also expressed condolences on the death of Swaraj Kaushal in an X-post. The party wrote in the post, "Swaraj Kaushal, father of MP and state minister Bansuri Swaraj, passed away today, December 4, 2025. His last rites will be performed today, December 4, 2025, at 4:30 pm at the Lodhi Road crematorium."
