'Then go back', Supreme Court's sharp reply to Pakistani citizen
New Delhi (The Uttam Hindu)- The petition of a Pakistani citizen living on a long term visa in Goa was heard in the court. The lawyer of the Pakistani citizen said that the petitioner has been living in Goa since 2016, but one day the central government suddenly cancelled the visa of Pakistani citizens and asked them to go back. On this the Supreme Court said, 'Then go back.'
In fact, after the Pahalgam attack, the central government took several major actions against Pakistan. This included the decision to cancel visas issued to Pakistani citizens. A Pakistani citizen living in Goa had opposed this decision by filing a petition in the court. The petition was filed as an urgent matter. This matter reached before the bench of Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice Satish Chandra Sharma.
When the court asked him to go back, the lawyer said that the petitioner will go back, but his argument can be heard. After this, the court asked why the petitioner did not approach the High Court having jurisdiction. To this, the lawyer replied that the police had come to the petitioner. After this, the Supreme Court listed the case for hearing. Earlier, while hearing a case, the court had asked not to send 6 members of a family to Pakistan on the charge of staying in the country even after their visa expired, until their claim of citizenship is verified.
