Tragic accident: Bus plunges into gorge in Almora, 7 killed and several injured

Almora (The Uttam Hindu): A devastating road accident occurred in Uttarakhand’s Almora district on Wednesday morning when a passenger bus fell into a deep gorge, resulting in the death of at least seven people. The accident took place around 8 am near Shilapani in the Vinayak area on the Bhikiyasen–Ramnagar route, about four kilometres ahead of Bhikiyasen.

According to initial information, around 12 passengers were on board the bus, which was travelling from Dwarahat via Bhikiyasen and Basot towards Ramnagar. Several other passengers are reported to have sustained serious injuries. While the official death toll is yet to be confirmed, sources indicate that the number of fatalities could be seven.

As soon as information about the accident was received, the administration and police rushed to the spot. Sub-Divisional Magistrate Bhikiyasen Yakshi Arora, Bhatrunjkhan Station House Officer Avneesh Kumar and Sub-Inspector Sanjay Joshi reached the site along with police personnel. Ambulance services and disaster management teams were also deployed for rescue and relief operations.

Rescue efforts are facing difficulties due to the remote and hilly terrain. Local villagers have also extended help in the operation. The injured are being pulled out of the gorge and shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment.
