Major Mishap in J&K’s Ramban: Two Buses Carrying Amarnath Pilgrims Collide, 36 Injured

Srinagar (The Uttam Hindu): Three buses of the Amarnath Yatra convoy collided with each other in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, in which 36 pilgrims were slightly injured. Officials said that these buses were going from Bhagwati Nagar in Jammu to Pahalgam base camp in South Kashmir. The accident took place near Chandrakot on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.

The cause of the accident is said to be the failure of the brakes of a bus. Due to brake failure, that bus collided with two other buses moving ahead. After the accident, the injured were immediately rushed to the hospital, where they were treated. The buses that were damaged were replaced with new buses and the journey was resumed.

Jammu and Kashmir: Buses carrying Amarnath pilgrims collide in Ramban, 36 pilgrims injured : Ramban deputy commissioner wrote on 'X', "The last vehicle of the Pahalgam convoy lost control and rammed into vehicles parked at the Chanderkot langar site, damaging four vehicles and causing minor injuries to 36 pilgrims. The district administration present at the spot immediately evacuated the injured to DH Ramban hospital. The pilgrims were later sent for onward journey in other vehicles."

The fourth batch of 6,979 pilgrims has left for the Amarnath cave. It includes 5,196 men, 1,427 women, 24 children, 331 sadhus and sadhvis and one transgender. All these pilgrims left for the Amarnath cave from Bhagwati Nagar base camp between 3.30 am and 4.05 am in two separate convoys. 4,226 pilgrims left for the Nunwan base camp via the 48 km long traditional Pahalgam route in 161 vehicles, while 2,753 pilgrims left for the 14 km long shorter but steeper Baltal route in 151 vehicles. The Amarnath Yatra officially began on July 3 and will conclude on August 9 on the day of Raksha Bandhan.
