Tragedy in Udhampur: CRPF Vehicle Crashes, 3 Soldiers Killed and 15 Injured

Udhampur (The Uttam Hindu): In a major road accident in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district on Thursday morning, three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were killed and 15 others were injured. The accident took place in Kandwa area of Basantgarh area when a CRPF bunker vehicle went out of control and overturned.

According to the information received, a total of 23 soldiers of the 187th battalion were travelling in the vehicle. As soon as the vehicle reached the Kandwa-Basantgarh road, it lost balance on the road and overturned and fell into a deep drain. After the accident, the local people immediately reached the spot and informed the police and administration. The police started relief and rescue operations by reaching the spot and admitted the injured to the nearest hospital.

The accident occurred around 10:30 am when the soldiers were returning from an operation. Two soldiers died on the spot, while one died in the hospital during treatment. The condition of some of the injured is said to be critical.

Regarding this incident, Additional Superintendent of Police Sandeep Bhat said that the treatment of all the injured jawans is going on. In the initial investigation, the bad condition of the road and loss of control of the vehicle are believed to be the cause of the accident.

Expressing grief over the incident, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh expressed condolences on social media platform X and personally spoke to District Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai. He said that relief operations are being monitored and local people have also come forward to help. At present, the police is investigating all aspects of the accident.
