'Vande Mataram' echoes in Ethiopia: PM Modi moved by Ethiopian singers' captivating rendition
Addis Ababa (The Uttam Hindu): On Tuesday evening in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa, a scene was witnessed which made every Indian's chest swell with pride. During a special banquet hosted by Ethiopia's Prime Minister Abi Ahmed Ali in honour of PM Narendra Modi, Ethiopian singers gave a melodious and captivating rendition of India's national anthem 'Vande Mataram'. PM Modi looked very emotional and excited to hear these voices of his culture on foreign soil and from the mouth of foreign artists. He encouraged the artists by clapping and called this moment memorable.
Prime Minister Modi shared a video of this special moment on social media, expressing his feelings. He wrote that it was a deeply moving moment to hear Ethiopian singers rendition of 'Vande Mataram' at a dinner hosted by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali, especially at a time when India is celebrating 150 years since the composition of 'Vande Mataram'. It is worth noting that several events are being organized in India to mark the 150th anniversary of the song composed by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, and this historic achievement was also discussed in the Winter Session of Parliament.
Prior to the cultural event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with Ethiopia's highest civilian honour, the Great Honour of Ethiopia. Accepting the award, PM Modi expressed his deep gratitude to the Ethiopian government and people. He wrote on the social media platform 'X' that he was honored to be honored by one of the world's most ancient civilizations. He humbly dedicated the award to the countless Indians who have contributed to strengthening the relationship between the two countries over the years. PM Modi said India is committed to expanding cooperation with Ethiopia in areas such as health, education, and digital capabilities.
Following a successful visit to Ethiopia, Prime Minister Modi will depart for Oman today for the final leg of his three-nation tour. This visit, at the invitation of Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, is significant as it coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Oman. This will be PM Modi's second visit to Oman, reflecting India's growing presence and diplomatic ties in the Gulf region.
