Major reshuffle in West Bengal as Election Commission transfers 12 officers
Election Commission of India transfers 12 police officers in West Bengal to ensure fair election process.
Kolkata (The Uttam Hindu): Amid the ongoing election atmosphere in West Bengal, the Election Commission of India has carried out a major reshuffle in the police administration. A total of 12 officers from Kolkata Police and the state police have been transferred as part of this action, with several senior officials moved from key positions and assigned new responsibilities.
Under the new appointments, Soma Das Mitra has been made Joint Commissioner Crime while Sudip Sarkar has been appointed Joint Commissioner Headquarters. Debasmita Das has been given the charge of Joint Commissioner Intelligence. The commission has also ordered the removal of Deputy Commissioners from the North South East and Southeast divisions of the Kolkata Police.
In further changes VSR Anantnag has been appointed Deputy Commissioner South and Pradeep Kumar Yadav Deputy Commissioner North. Saikat Ghosh has been shifted to the Southeast Division while Prashanta Chowdhury has been assigned as Deputy Commissioner East. Officials said that apart from these changes several officers in different police districts and commissionerates across the state have also been transferred as part of the reshuffle.
