Yamuna Turns Fierce in Mathura, 6,300 People Hit by Floods
Mathura (The Uttam Hindu): The Yamuna river in Mathura has crossed the danger mark by 86 centimeters, turning the situation critical in riverside villages and colonies built in the floodplain. More than 2,000 houses have been surrounded by water, while over 300 homes have been directly flooded with three to four feet of water. Families have vacated their houses and moved to shelters as the water level continues to rise by one centimeter every hour.
Authorities have deployed police and PAC teams along the riverbanks to stop people from going near the ghats. District officials, including DM Chandra Prakash Singh and SSP Shlok Kumar, inspected the affected areas and appealed to residents to move to safer locations. Electricity supply in the flood-hit colonies has been cut to avoid accidents, leaving the area in darkness and forcing people to rely on candles.
Several villages in Mant, Shergarh, Nauhjheel, and Gokul are now inundated, with traffic disrupted and movement possible only by boats. The administration has stepped up relief operations, providing food in shelter homes and arranging for safe relocation of people and animals. If the water continues to rise at the present pace, it may surpass 167 meters by Saturday morning, submerging markets and major ghats.
