Devotion Turns Deadly – Pickup Carrying 15 Kanwariyas Hits Live Power Line, 2 Dead
Yamunanagar(The Uttam Hindu): A tragic accident struck a group of Kanwariyas on Tuesday morning when the pickup vehicle they were traveling in came in contact with high-voltage power lines. The shocking incident claimed the lives of two devotees on the spot, while two others sustained serious injuries.
The deceased have been identified as Kuldeep and Harish, while the injured are Rinku and Sumit, who were immediately rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment. The vehicle was carrying around 15 Kanwariyas from Gumthala village in Yamunanagar, heading towards Haridwar to collect holy Ganga water for the ongoing Kanwar Yatra.
Eyewitnesses reported that the pickup accidentally brushed against overhead live wires, resulting in a powerful electric shock that killed two pilgrims instantly. Panic spread among the other passengers as rescue efforts began. Local villagers and authorities quickly arrived at the scene to assist.
Police officials confirmed the accident and said further investigation is underway to determine how the vehicle came into contact with the wires. The administration has assured all possible help to the victims’ families and promised better safety measures for Kanwar Yatra routes. This tragic event has once again raised concerns over the safety of Kanwariyas traveling in open vehicles, especially in areas with low-hanging electric lines.
