Bengaluru (the Uttam Hindu): A shocking threat email was received by the official account of Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL). An unidentified sender, calling himself a “Kannada patriot” and someone who has been “turned into a terrorist,” threatened to blow up a metro station.

The email alleged that some BMRCL employees were harassing the sender’s divorced wife. The threat message stated: “You people are troubling my ex-wife. I am a patriot of Karnataka. You have made me feel like a terrorist. Now one of your metro stations will be blasted.”

Soon after receiving the email, BMRCL officials took immediate action. After verifying the message, they filed a complaint at Wilson Garden Police Station. An FIR has been registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 351(2) and 351(3), which relate to criminal intimidation and causing public fear.

According to police sources, the email was sent from a private domain, and efforts are underway to trace the IP address. The cybercrime unit has also begun an investigation. It is still unclear whether the accused has a genuine personal grievance against metro employees or if the email was merely intended to attract attention.

Security has been tightened across Bengaluru Metro following the threat. Additional police personnel have been deployed at all metro stations, and dog squads along with bomb detection teams are conducting continuous patrols. Passengers have been urged to report any suspicious objects or individuals immediately.

This is not the first such incident in the city. In March 2024, several schools in Bengaluru received bomb threat emails, which later turned out to be hoaxes.
