Yunus Government under pressure over Osman Hadi death; Inqilab Manch ultimatum seeks verdict in 24 days, cancellation of Indian Work Permits
Dhaka/Shillong (The Uttam Hindu): Bangladesh’s interim government led by Mohammad Yunus is facing mounting pressure over the death of Inqilab Manch spokesperson Osman Hadi. The organisation has issued an ultimatum to the government, demanding that the murder trial be completed within 24 days. Along with this, Inqilab Manch has put forward three major demands, including the cancellation of work permits of Indians working in Bangladesh.
Warning to Government from Shahbagh
According to a report by The Daily Star, Inqilab Manch secretary Abdullah Al Jabbar issued the warning to the Yunus government from Dhaka’s Shahbagh area on Sunday. He said in strong words that the trial of the killers, masterminds, accomplices, those who helped them escape and those who provided shelter must be completed within the next 24 days. So far, the government has not issued any official response to these demands.
Three key demands of Inqilab Manch:
Fast-track Trial: Completion of the murder trial within 24 days.
Cancellation of Indian Work Permits: The organisation argued that the work permits of Indians employed in Bangladesh should be cancelled to protect national sovereignty.
Threat of International Legal Action: Inqilab Manch warned that if India refuses to extradite the accused who have taken shelter there, the matter would be taken to an international court.
BSF rejects claims of killers entering India
Meanwhile, Indian security agencies have strongly denied claims made by Dhaka Police that the accused had fled to India. A Dhaka Metropolitan Police officer had earlier claimed that two key suspects crossed into Meghalaya via the Haluaghat border with the help of local collaborators.
Responding to this, Meghalaya BSF Inspector General O.P. Upadhyay told PTI-Bhasha that these claims were completely baseless and misleading. He said there was no evidence of anyone crossing the international border into Meghalaya through the Haluaghat sector, and no such incident had been reported to the BSF.
Meghalaya Police also clarified that they have no intelligence inputs regarding the presence of suspects in the Garo Hills region and are in continuous coordination with central agencies.
