Italy PM Giorgia Meloni Says India Can End Global Conflicts

New Delhi (Uttam Hindu News): Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has once again underscored India’s importance on the global stage, stating that India could play a decisive role in halting conflicts worldwide. Speaking during the United Nations General Assembly, Meloni praised India’s diplomatic influence and emphasized its potential in promoting global peace. Meloni praised India’s global role, saying, “I believe India can play a very significant role.”

This statement comes at a time when India is gaining recognition for its diplomatic strength and peace-building efforts globally. Recently, during a telephone conversation between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Meloni, both leaders exchanged views on regional and global issues. They agreed on the need for a swift and peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. PM Modi assured full support from India in this direction.

Boosting bilateral ties

Both leaders emphasized strengthening strategic partnerships between India and Italy. Progress was reviewed in sectors including investment, defense, security, space, science and technology, education, people-to-people contacts, and counter-terrorism. They reiterated their commitment to deepening partnership under the joint strategic action plan for 2025-29.

Meloni expressed Italy’s strong support for early completion of the India-EU Free Trade Agreement. She also extended best wishes for the success of the AI Impact Summit to be held in India in 2026. Both leaders agreed to take steps to enhance connectivity under the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor initiative.

Meloni had earlier congratulated PM Modi on his 75th birthday on September 17, praising his leadership. She wrote on X, “Wishing India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi a happy 75th birthday. His strength, determination, and ability to lead millions is truly inspiring.”

Meloni expressed her desire to further strengthen India-Italy relations. India and the European Union are working together to finalize a comprehensive and balanced Free Trade Agreement, which will benefit businesses and consumers on both sides.
