MP man defies science: Retired Joint Collector sleeps 0 hours, feels no pain - a 50-year mystery
Rewa (The Uttam Hindu): A shocking case has come to light from Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh, which has challenged all the claims of medical science. Retired Joint Collector Mohanlal Dwivedi living here claims that he has not slept even for a moment in the last 50 years. Generally, 6 to 8 hours of sleep is considered necessary for a human being in 24 hours, but 75-year-old Mohanlal says that he has not slept for five decades, despite this he does not have any serious disease and he is living a completely healthy life. This strange condition of his has put the doctors into thinking also.
The body becomes like stone, there is no feeling of pain
Mohanlal Dwivedi, a resident of Chanakyapuri Colony in Rewa, is not only suffering from insomnia but also from another mysterious condition. He claims that his body has become as hard as 'stone'. The situation is such that even after getting injured, he does not feel any kind of pain in his body. Mohanlal says that in the year 1973, a few days after he got the job of a lecturer, his sleep suddenly disappeared from the month of July. Initially, he did not tell anyone about this and kept staying awake the whole night. The surprising thing was that even after staying awake the whole night, neither did his eyes feel any irritation nor did it affect his daily routine.
He was treated till Delhi-Mumbai, even the doctors were surprised
When the problem worsened, the family first resorted to witchcraft, but when nothing worked, they sought medical advice. Mohanlal underwent tests at major hospitals from Rewa and Jabalpur to metropolitan cities like Delhi and Mumbai, but doctors were unable to find the cause of his illness. Interestingly, Mohanlal's wife, Narmada Dwivedi, also suffers from sleep problems and sleeps only 3 to 4 hours in 24 hours. From qualifying the MPPSC in 1974 to becoming a Naib Tehsildar and retiring as a Joint Collector in 2001, he spent his entire career without sleep. He spends his nights reading books and walking on the terrace.
Experts said – the secret will be revealed only after investigation
Regarding this unique case, Dr. Rahul Mishra, Superintendent of Sanjay Gandhi Hospital, Rewa, says that medical science can identify thousands of reasons for insomnia. He explained that a thorough study of sleep disorders is conducted in the psychiatry department. According to Dr. Mishra, if a husband and wife or a family share the same problem, it could be due to genetic reasons. However, not feeling pain and not sleeping at all for 50 years is a very rare and complex condition. Doctors believe that only after a detailed investigation will the mystery of how Mohanlal has remained healthy for so many years without sleep be revealed.
