VIDEO: Israeli PM boycotted at UNGA, several nations walk out during Gaza speech
New York (The Uttam Hindu): In an unexpected turn of events, the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) saw Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu face a mass boycott during his address. As Netanyahu vowed to continue the devastating war on Gaza, delegates from several countries rose from their seats and walked out of the hall in protest.
While some greeted his speech with applause, many others openly opposed his aggressive stance. This development occurred as Netanyahu was addressing the world from the General Assembly podium.
According to media inputs, Prime Minister Netanyahu claimed in his address that his speech was being broadcast directly to Gaza via loudspeakers so that Israeli citizens held hostage there could hear it. He explained that Israeli intelligence services had captured the equipment and broadcast the speech to people in Gaza via mobile phones.
In his speech, PM Netanyahu addressed the Israeli citizens held hostage in Gaza, saying, "We have not forgotten you. Israel stands with you all." He also issued a direct threat to Hamas, saying, "Put down your weapons. Let my people go. If you do, you will survive. If you don't, Israel will hunt you down."
Netanyahu also strongly condemned countries that have recently recognized Palestine as a state, calling the decision "shameful."
Amid this entire development, US President Donald Trump also issued a statement. He clarified, "I will not allow Israel to annex the West Bank." Trump further said, "Enough is enough. It's time to stop."
